Rediscovering Portugal ☀️🌴

This year we decided to spend two amazing weeks in Portugal, a well-deserved vacay after Miss Rona decided to dominate the world. As usual, Portugal never disappoints, even though it was mid-October, we never had degrees under 27 or lacked sunny days. We started our Portuguese adventure from the south to Coimbra and then finally Lisbon. It feels nice to come back to this mesmerizing country after seven years.

We started touring Portugal with Faro/Vilamoura where we spent one week chilling at the beach, enjoying the warm sand and some amazing Portuguese cuisine. Every single day felt like a day spent in Paradise and honestly, I don’t even know if there is any better place in Europe if you need these ingredients for a perfect summer vacation.

Going on vacation in mid-October might sound a bit weird, however, temperatures in south Portugal are still amazing even during this period. The good news is that the tourists were not as many as they usually are in June/July/August and everything felt even better without the typical tourist crowds.

But just as with everything in life, nothing is quite perfect. There were many tourist traps even in mid-October, so you always had to be careful with any purchase in order to avoid scams. If you’re planning a vacation to Quarteira/Vilamoura, it is quite important that you avoid the Marina section as it’s full of overpriced restaurants and shops. It looks extremely tempting but instead of having a nice dinner there, just go and explore other options within the city of Quarteira where you will definitely find cheaper alternatives. Also, it is important to be aware that restaurants usually close in the afternoon and they open only around 6 or 7 PM.

Don’t bother paying for Uber or Taxis, walking in these places is a blessing and trust me, you will enjoy every single step that you will make there. Also, you will be mesmerized by the beautiful palm trees that surround every inch of every street.

Sunsets in Vilamoura are very beautiful, just almost as beautiful as the ones you will see in Zadar, Croatia. Make sure to go for a walk right after dinner to enjoy the sunset on the beach which is quite empty since the number of tourists is very low during this period of the year.

October Sunset in Vilamoura/Quarteira

It felt nice to spend 6 days in this Portuguese paradise, a vacay that we will definitely remember and that pumped my batteries for the forthcoming months. Special thanks to Old Village Prestige for the neat accommodation and luxurious views. Can’t wait to come back! 🙂
