Melodifestivalen goes on with the third week of the competition with another set of seven songs fighting for two tickets in the Grand Final and other two in the Second Chance round. This week we have some veterans coming back and also some fresh newcomers.
Charlotte Perrelli – “Still Young”
Charlotte doesn’t need any introduction since she is the winner of Eurovision 1999 and represented Sweden once again at Eurovision 2008. She also came back to Melfest two more times, in 2012 with “The Girl” and in 2017 with a Swedish song, sadly failing to qualify both times. She is now back with a schlager-ish song that you can either love or hate. Not my personal favorite in this Semifinal but let’s see if she manages to be among top 4 tonight.
Emil Assergård – “Om allting skiter sig”
Emil is a newcomer and he has been signed to Universal Music since 2016. Sadly his song and overall performance is kinda bland but his vocals are on point. Hopefully he will make a comeback in the future with a better song.
Klara Hammarström – “Beat of Broken Hearts”
We all know Klara from last year when the biggest robbery happened. She finished 5th with “Nobody” that was also my number one song from the entire competition. When I found out that she’s coming back with a ballad, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous but after hearing the song and seeing the performance, all I can say is WOW. Such an amazing singer with a flawless performance. I absolutely love the song and I do hope that she goes to the final tonight or at least Andra Chansen.
Mustasch – “Contagious”
I remember the lead singer from a previous song but sadly this time, there is no bed on fire, no piano on fire, nothing on fire. Maybe the Swedes will love it, but for me personally, I don’t feel like the song stands out at all. Probably I had higher expectations.
Elisa – “Den du är”
Uhh, well, Elsa from ‘Frozen’ called and she wants her dress, décor, and overall atmosphere back. But she said you can keep the song though. Sadly nothing spectacular about Elisa, besides the extra-show, nothing that really makes me feel something when I listen to this song.
Alvaro Estrella – “Baila Baila”
I have to say that I am a sucker for a good old Swedish latino song in Melfest. This year there was no exception. I absolutely love ‘Baila Baila’ and I think Alvaro will do an amazing job while performing this song. Given the fact that his fan base isn’t that strong, I really hope he makes it at least to the Second Chance round, if not straight to the Final. Be ready to move your booty on this BOP.
Tusse – “Voices”
Everyone is super excited about this song. It’s a nice a song but comparing it with the others, I’m not sure if it’s anything special. Tusse is definitely a good singer and I’m sure that his ‘Idol’ fan-base will deliver him straight to the Final tonight.
