Trip to Spain 2019: Estoy enfermo…de amor!

Hello everyone, I finally found some time to write about my first international adventure of 2019 that just ended. It was perfect from day 1 till the last day and I’m so grateful for everything that happened during my trip. I’m grateful for having the opportunity to meet wonderful people, to see places beyond perfection and to learn about other cultures. Even though I lived a good part of my life in Portugal, I never had the chance to see Spain (ridiculous, right?), thankfully, with a bit of research I actually managed to buy really cheap tickets and to save lots of money on this trip. Special thanks to Cristina, one of my dearest friends, for hosting me and for enduring my craycray behavior for a full week. Also, it was a pleasure to meet her flatmates, who were super fun to hang out with (thank you for all the laughs 🙂 ) “Que le pasa a Lupita” – still on my spotify playlist, gracias, Vero!

When I arrived in Santander, the sun was shinning like never before and it felt like June instead of March. Even though I was super tired after spending one sleepless night in Budapest, I was really excited to explore the city, and so I did, seeing lots of awesome things even on day 1.

After exploring Santander, I also visited Bilbao which gave me New Yorkish vibes with the modern architecture combined with the old one. Bilbao is by far, one of the most interesting and beautiful cities I’ve seen so far and it matches Prague and Gothenburg in terms in uniqueness. I was so fascinated about it, that I even thought about moving there for a while, why not?

Cheated with a Starbucks coffee. Couldn’t handle myself and I needed more energy to see more of this perfect city. People from Bilbao are really friendly and quite eager to offer help whenever needed.

I just wish I had more time to explore this city and I strongly recommend you to stay at least two days in order to see everything. Bilbao is 1.5 hours away from Santander by bus and it’s quite a comfy trip (internet available on bus and it’s not limited like on Flixbus). My last days in Santander were quite chill and relaxing. We went to the beach, tried local cuisine and beer (obviously) and of course, explored what this city had to offer. My favorite places were the cliffs (super windy though), Palace of “La Magdalena” situated on a small island and Centro Botin, a special place where you can get spectacular views of the sea and the entire city.

Nope, it’s not Bahamas, it’s Santander.
“El Faro” – a must see place
Meanwhile, Spring has arrived in Santander
“La Magdalena” Palace
Spanish Beer – LOVED IT!
I just can’t abstain myself to take pics of random palm trees.

It was perfect. Spain, you’re perfect! I feel like I recharged my batteries and hopefully it will last for some time now. My next adventure adventure will be in a quite exotic country and hopefully it will happen quite soon. Stay tuned! 🙂

It looks like you had a great trip! I’m planning on visiting Menorca, Spain in April. I’ve been there before and it’s a beautiful island. You should go there some day if you get the chance 🙂
